Preparing the Homemade Tomato Sauce
- Add all your ingredients into your pot, mix, and leave the sauce to simmer for 40 minutes on low heat. You can leave the garlic cloves hole and then remove them if you prefer.
Making Spicy Apulian Pizza with Sausage
- Peel and slice the onion sideways into thin pieces.
- Take half of your pepper, wash it and slice that into half strips.
- Take your pizza dough and lay it on a dish with a fresh sheet of parchment paper.
- Spread your tomato sauce, enough but not too much that it makes the pizza liquid. If you are using frozen homemade tomato sauce, add a little less as it tends to be slightly more watery.
- Top with as much mozzarella cheese as you'd like.
- Then layer your vegetables on top, the onions and the pepper.
- Season lightly as your pizza is already well seasoned with the ingredients.
- Next, sprinkle the oregano.
- It's time to add dollops of the spicy component that will make your pizza so delicious. I am speaking about the Belmorso Cannonata, that so many rave about.
- After that, you want to take your sausage, remove the casing and add it into crumbled pieces on top of the other ingredients.
- Bake in a pre-heated oven for 20 to 25 minutes. I preheated my oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes and the pizza turned out perfect.
- Take it out of the oven, cut into slices, drizzle some Belmorso Extra Virgin Olive Oil and share it with a loved one. It's perfect to be enjoyed alfresco, on ar romantic set table or while watching a movie.
