Agrodolce Chicken
We know our readers love chicken recipes, especially when they have an Italian twist to them. That’s why we try to keep a few new ones coming every year. Today’s one is Agrodolce Chicken, which I think you’re going to really love.
Never heard of the word Agrodolce. Let me explain.
Agrodolce is a traditional Italian sauce known for its unique balance of sweet and sour flavors. The name “agrodolce” itself comes from “agro” meaning sour and “dolce” meaning sweet. This sauce typically combines ingredients like vinegar and sugar, which create its distinctive taste.
Agrodolce can include additional elements such as raisins, pine nuts, onions, depending on the regional variation and the dish it’s accompanying. It’s often used to complement meats, vegetables, or fish, adding a rich and complex flavor profile that enhances the overall dish.
Easy Agrodolce Chicken Recipe

Ingredients:
- 300gr chicken breast cut into strips
- 2 peppers – one yellow and one red
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 tablespoon Belmorso IGP Balsamic
- 1 tablespoon white sugar or brown sugar
- Belmorso EVOO
- a handful or capers or two according to your preference
- oregano to taste
How To Make It:
Cut the peppers into thin strips, and peel the garlic cloves.
Add both to a large pan with a generous drizzle of Belmorso EVOO.
Let them sauté for a few minutes.
Then add 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar and one sugar, and mix.. Let them cook for 10 to 15 minutes.
Then, proceed to adding the chicken strips, lower the heat to medium, and leave to cook for another 15 minutes.
Make sure the chicken is fully cooked and the peppers have become tender enough, almost soft.
Take the pan off the heat, and add the oregano to your liking. You can also skip it, if you don’t like it.
Serve on its own or with your favourite side dish.
