Quick Gnocchi Pasta With Garlic Tomato Sauce

You might see a plate of gnocchi and think how delicious, and that’s absolutely true. For us Italians it goes a little deeper than that. Gnocchi were a staple thursday dinner because they are were a poor but very filling dish. That’s why when you go to Rome, if you walk the streets on a Thursday many local trattorias will have a note on their menus saying “Tonight Gnocchi”. That saying is popular throughout Italy, not just in Rome, and that’s linked to that post-war period of poverty, when families had to be really mindful of how they used their food allowance for the week. Since Fridays were no meat days, Thursday dinners had to be very filling, and gnocchi do that.

If you want a filling, quick, easy, low cost meal, here’s one you are going to love. And if you want to add some protein, just cook some minced beef in the pan, before you add the tomato sauce. This can also work with crumbled sausages.
